Devil and Angel
Once upon a time, when little miss spendthrift was debating whether to get a certain designer leather bag, she went to her two best friends, Devil and Angel, for some advise.
Devil told her, "It's a classic! You can keep it. It will still retain value and since it's leather, it's not a bad buy!"
Angel immediately pulled her away and told her, "Think of the amount of bags you can buy with the money! You can buy so much more things!"
So over dinner, little miss spendthrift continued internally debating while Devil and Angel offered differing views.
Then Angel's fiance appeared and immediately asked little miss spendthrift on where's the expensive designer bag. Hasn't she bought it yet?
After a 2 hour debate, little miss spendthrift went home empty-handed.
When little miss spendthrift's Darling Hubby (DH) heard that she did not return with the bag, boy, was he surprised.
After all, in the morning, little miss spendthrift had asked for his opinion on how would he feel if she returned with that expensive bag, his response was a rather calm "don't make it a habit ok?"
(When Devil and Angel heard about DH's words, jaws dropped.)
But little miss spendthrift cannot stop thinking about the bag.
She debated and debated and asked for so many people's opinions.
She thought of whether she was wasting money and whether she can take care of the bag.
So over the weekend she thought hard.
On Monday night, Devil sent her a message, "I saw someone carrying the bag today!", little miss spendthrift thought so hard, but still she cannot make a decision.
Finally the next day, a Tuesday, which happened to be little miss spendthrift's birthday (don't ask how old is she), she received messages from both Devil and Angel.
Basically, they were wishing her a happy birthday and may the bag drop out of the sky into her hands.
As you can see, this Angel is more of a Fallen Angel at times.
Darling Husband brought his little miss spendthrift out on her birthday. Bringing her to eat a yummy lunch and a nice little walk to look at her favourite toys in Orchard.
Little miss spendthrift did not find any new toys to entice her while her DH broke something in that shop and went off to pay for it. Luckily, it costs less than $10.
Then they went to their favourite bookstore. After browsing and finding nothing much in the bookstore, DH brought her to have a cup of coffee and rest their weary feet.
All the while, little miss spendthrift though hard....while her Angel and Devil messaged her nonstop.
In fact, Angel ended off with this message (in the exact words):
Err... K lah... Just buy as a bday gift plus hard work reward for yourself ;-)
Sometimes, little miss spendthrift wonders at the friends she has.
DH asked little miss spendthrift to show him the bag. So off to the shop they went.
DH thought the bag wasn't anything special before laying his eyes on it. But after seeing it, he agreed that it is very beautiful.
But little miss spendthrift still cannot make up her mind!
She thought so hard, pondered so long that her DH made her an offer.
"Why not I buy you the bag and you do all the housework in future?"
Of course, it was a no go.
But he persisted.
"That doesn't mean you will do housework forever, because when we hire a maid, you won't have to do housework again!"
But little miss spendthrift would not accept his offer.
Finally, little miss spendthrift made up her mind.
She will get the bag.
She went into the boutique, held the bag and looked in the mirror.
The size was just nice for her. The colour is one of her favourites (pink). She love the style and design a lot. She likes the brand. In fact, she has a pair of sunglasses by them.
And so she decided, and asked for a new piece.
The salesman immediately checked on stock availability and told her that there were 2 pieces left.
He went into the store and brought out a pristine piece.
She handed over her credit card and signed for the bag (don't worry, it's actually a debit card).
And all the while, her DH was whispering to her that he can still pay for the bag if she will do all the housework in future.
And the bag is hers.
It's now sitting in the dust bag, in the paper bag, in her closet right now because she can't bear to open it up and start using it.
Little miss spendthrift has to clear her work cupboard first, create a space for her bag to sit on, then will she bring it to work.
She now has 2 Coach bags, 1 Coach wristlet, 1 Coach skinny, 2 Burberry Blue Label bags, 1 Juicy Couture Bag, 1 Miu Miu Sunglasses and her latest acquisition: Miu Miu Bow Satchel in Mughetto.
Little miss spendthrift also has another burberry blue label wallet that will be coming to her as her birthday present from her friends that include Angel and Devil.
Little miss spendthrift really hopes that she will stop eyeing designer labels for a long long time.
I also hope little miss spendthrift does not evolve into little miss designer crazy =)
