Beijing Olympics 2008
Ever since I got cable, I've been stuck to the TV. Even The Chosen One is surprised that I am watching so much of the coverage.
Hey, it's once every four years, so I should catch as much as I can!
But this Olympics is causing a lot of problems left and right. News reports that the public transportation was not able to cope with the demands of the locals as Beijing restricted the numbers of private vehicles on the roads. In an effort to control air pollution, factories were shut down and the number of trucks on the roads were heavily controlled. I even heard that locals in Beijing were encouraged to stay at home more and leave the streets for the visitors.
In my line of work, we also encountered quite a few problems. Any shipment to Beijing is severely affected. Shipments to other parts of China were not spared. Customs check is super tight now.
And all these problems will not be over after the Olympics. That's because the Paralympics will commence after that.
And then there are the conspiracy theories. Underaged gymnasts. Judging skewed towards the host nation. Male contenders in the female events?!
But still, I am enjoying myself on the sporting events.
