My Driving Test
As some friends would know, I just took my driving test last monday.
Reaching my practical test was a rather long journey, and yet it seemed over so quickly. Before I knew it, I was having a test to qualify myself as a driver.
I still remembered it was in June that I took my basic theory test. Then I got my PDL and started actual driving. Those first few lessons seemed so fun at first. Like a new toy. Then I had my final theory test. I consider myself lucky, or maybe just possessing a good short term memory, in passing those theory tests on the first try. Because I can't remember some of the rules in the theory books now....
Before I knew it, my practical test date was on the 8th January 2007. On one hand, I wanted to get it over and done with, on the other hand, I was terrified of this date. My lessons with my instructor were getting stale. We were circling the test routes over and over again and I was getting very bored of Ubi. Actually, I admitted to him that I was bored and he admitted that he was was bored as well.
Once in a while he would take me on a new route to liven things up. I still remembered the east to west back to east drive I took. Honestly, I think I wasn't allowed on most of the roads on that trip. But my instructor brushed it off by saying if I don't drive in actual road conditions, how am I going to improve. I either have a very brave instructor or a very bochup instuctor.
And then it was the day of my test. I couldn't sleep and woke up bright and early although my test was at 345 pm. My warm up lesson with my instuctor was normal. My intructor gave me a few more words of encouragement and kept telling me to be confident. It was a bright sunny day and I was soooo hot that I was perspiring. Maybe it was the stress and nervousness, but I couldn't cool off even though I had the air-conditioned blasting in my face.
When I was in the room, waiting for my name to be called by the tester, I felt like I was a lamb to the slaughter. With the tester besides me in the car, I could feel myself slowly panicking. The tester was nice though, even told me the most important thing is don't be nervous.
All went rather well in the circuit. I didn't even falter at the stations I dreaded; the slope and the crank course. Until on the way out of the circuit, the tester kept telling me to slow down. At the first place I had to change lanes, I was a little rattled and changed lanes to sharply. That was when the tester started the lecture. I got lectured all the way until my second mistake, which was failing to slow down when there were obstacles ahead.
Then the lecture got worse.
All the way back to the driving centre, he scolded and nagged and my morale became very very low. I honestly thought that I would fail and was already thinking about the amount of money I had to spend on driving lessons again. By the time I returned to the driving centre, I was convinced that I had failed.
I was told to follow him to the room and then he sat down, lectured me somemore, and said I passed.
I think I was in shock for a couple of seconds. Actually, I still can't really believe that I am now a qualified driver.
Now, I am eagerly awaiting for the precious card to be delivered!
New Year, New Beginning
It's a new year! Yeah, I know I'm a bit late but can't seem to make myself type anything the past few days.
I didn't do any countdown this year. But anyone who knows me will know I actively avoid going to anyplace for countdowns. Christmas or New Year. Talking about Christmas, this year is like last year. Wrapping 40 presents over the weekend and hope that it's enough. Turns out, I'm short by 5 presnts. OMG, 5! Got a whole big bunch of presents in return too.
Kicked off the New Year with a visit to a deli/restaurant with great food. It's not cheap but the food and the company makes it worthwhile. The only thing weird was when our desserts arrived. My Tarte Madame Tatin came...unassembled. I was looking for the tart but after a while, I figured I had to combine the biscuit with the lemon cream and the granny smith apple together to get the whole tart. Kinda weird. But not as weird as the cheesecake that came in a glass. I actually asked the waitress where's the cheesecake.
Having lots and lots of driving lessons too because my test is on Monday! *Panic, freaked out mode* Thankfully I have a good instructor that doesn't scold me . If not I will be too stressed during lessons to actually learn anything. I learned a lot within these few months of driving lessons.
I paid my first visit to GV Gold Class Theatre in Vivocity. It's very posh, has it's own seating area and bar for people waiting for their movie to start. The theatre itself is small and has a limited number of seats and there are a total of 3 theatres. But the seats are big and comfortable and the walkway is wide. So there are no "excuse me" or "sorry" when people walk pass your row. There is a leg rest that you can raise it up too and they even provided blankets for every seat. There is a menu and when you required the server, you press a button on the table between the seats. The server will appear, take you order on a PDA and return with it later. The menu consists of full meals, desserts and drinks. Unfortunately, you have to pay for everything you order on the menu. One glass of coke, that came in an actual glass cup, costs $4.00. But the menu sadly didn't contain any popcorn. Or Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. And all these came at a very nice price of $25.00 per ticket.
We caught Curse of the Golden Flower. It's actually very very nice! Unfortunately, they had some really big caliber actors and actresses like Chow Yun Fatt and Gong Li so the newbie Actor Jay Chou really paled in comparison. And of course, it's cleavages all round. I wonder how many corsets were used in this show.
